Join nature lovers across the capital region between April 25 and 28 as we celebrate Greater Victoria’s biodiversity during the international 2025 City Nature Challenge.
The capital region will be competing with more than 700 urban areas around the world to see how many wild species can be recorded during this 4-day international bioblitz.
Participating in City Nature Challenge in the capital region is easy:
1. Create an account using the free iNaturalist app (AppStore or Google Play) or website
2. Become a member of the Greater Victoria City Nature Challenge project. This step is optional but makes you eligible to win great prizes and receive project updates.
3. Join the hunt! Search for local nature in your backyard, neighbourhood, or favourite park or beach. Observations of wild native plants, animals, fungi, insects, tracks, or even scat are all welcome.
4. Use a digital camera or smart phone to capture your sightings, and upload to iNaturalist. Any iNat observation made within the capital region between April 25-28 will count towards the Challenge.
5. Identify your findings as best you can. For help, use iNaturalist’s image recognition feature and the online iNaturalist community.
